# The Last Creations
The Scorched Conquest was a conflict of unprecedented violence, leaving [[Humankind]] and the [[Aspects]] exposed to the schemings of the [[Scorched Guard|Guard]], with no means of retaliation. In the great plains of [[Thakkar]], in the belly of the war, the gods gathered and conceived a plan to fight against the invader with a weapon of their making. Instead of pitting more of Humankind's blood against the legions of the guard, a new form of life would be sacrificed. Drawing from the Human blueprint each Aspects produced a legion of beings to serve at the conflict's frontline. On the battlefield, their fury was unmatched, their intellect beyond that of any human and their loyalty unparalleled. They were the finest weapons of the Aspects' will. But a weapon is useful only as long as there is a conflict to use it. In the aftermath of the [[Scorched Conquest]], the Hosts became outcasts in the lands of the [[Aspectdom of Than|Aspectdom]], their brutality combined with a limited sense of empathy attracting the distaste of their contemporary. This rejection sparked several conflicts against the Host Populations, further aggravating the toll of the Conquest, until it culiminated into the dreadful [[Giants' Fall]].
In the aftermath of the Giants' Fall, it was said they sought peace in the remote locations of [[Ibune]], fleeing Human presence, going further south, beyond the [[Solitude]], hiding in the deep forests of the Ordelado Wilds. And they would have found peace, if the [[Blaze]] had not hit our forebears, driving hundreds of thousands of refugees beyond Oblivion's Range and into the lands of the Hosts. As the cities of stones fell silent in the north, the scattered tribes of Hosts welcomed the survivors in their arms, and showed them the mercy they never received for their own sacrifice. Together they raised the great cities of [[Thennai]], [[Kraijur]], [[Gokonda]] and [[Sarangal]], establishing the foundations for some of the most formidable civilisations of the Reign of Blood. During this time of collaboration, humans learned to live with their cousins, and to respect their wisdom and undying loyalty. It was not uncommon in that time to see a Host living with a human family for the remnant of its life, offering guidance and protection to its offspring and helping them remember their ancestors.
Nobody really knows why the Hosts started dying, but their inability to reproduce led to the rapid dwindling of their population, and ultimately to their almost entire extinction. Today, they are barely more than a myth used in children tales. The last confirmed sighting of an Host was Udan the Drowned almost two years prior to this article being written.
# Creatures of Mass Destruction
No man can rival the gargantuan size of an Host, the smallest of their members hulking over the proudest brutes of Yrom Kell. Their parched skins are covered in scars and growth marks acquired across centuries of life and battle, an heritage that serves as grim souvenirs for most of them. They are the eldest witnesses of the[[ Reign of Blood]], burdened by age and eons of memories they struggle to keep together, their eyes lost in the void as they navigate an ocean of moments whose continuity is fragmented and incomplete. Was Saringitara still chieftain of the Manenko when the [[Missing Storms]] happened ? Was it Kunukkari or Gulliit that led the assault on Urun before the rise of the Seetans ? False memories become facts as they merge into one another in the mind of these eternal giants.
Besides their towering silhouette, the Hosts possess several singularities in comparison to their human cousins. First among many, the Hosts possess a set of lattice membranes along their thorax and neck, which serves as a filter for Moment-rich atmospheres, and provides them with the necessary influx of energy to sustain their body's ravenous demands. It's during [[Momentstorm|momentstorms]] that their body manifest its magnificence, when the storm sacs fill up and glow under the skin, highlighting bones and veins alike. How does this body know the perfect consumption rate of these reserves during two storms ? How does it affect the Hosts' metabolism ? These questions will remain unanswered as the Hosts' population has faced the consequences of a sterility crafter in their very existence by the Aspects more than fifteen hundred years ago.
